DRC President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo has demanded unconditional loyalty from the National Army FARDC during an expanded Military High Command meeting. This meeting, the second of such kind since Tshisekedi took over power in 2019 was convened inside the Congress Hall at the State palace in the capital Kinshasa on Saturday. For more than a year, President Tshisekedi has been at the forefront of a military campaign to rid the country’s eastern region of armed rebellion including foreign armies that have for more than three decades held the country hostage. The Congolese leader has been carefully making changes within the country’s military leadership which in the past had been highly compromised and infiltrated by negative forces meaning that its loyalty to him was questionable. He summoned the general officers and senior officers from the military regions of the national army. They were led to the meeting by FARDC Chief of General Staff, General Célestin Mbala Musiense. Gen. Mbala Musense presented the country’s security situation as President Tshisekedi carefully listened. The army through in their statement, promised, “to scrupulously and correctly execute all your instructions with a view to putting out all the fires of fire and to neutralize definitively all the negative forces, authors of the insecurity throughout the national territory so as to produce peace, an essential factor in guaranteeing investments, producers of wealth and development in our country.” Gen. Léon Richard Kasonga the FARDC spokesperson also  read the act of engagement of loyalty in which the General officers, Superiors and subordinates, non-commissioned officers and Troops remain resolutely committed never betray the Congo, in accordance with their oath because the FARDC are “the cement of national unity.” This oath, he added, also reflects their determination to serve the country in discipline, with self-sacrifice and circumspection. The general officers, superiors and troops reiterated their loyalty to the Supreme Authority as well as their unwavering attachment to the Commander in chief to materialise his vision of making the FARDC a truly national, professional and modern army.
