The Political crisis in Mali is today witnessing a new shift in dynamics as the Military Junta has finally installed a retired Airforce Pilot to head the transition as President.

Bah N'Daw is a retired Air Force Colonel Major who only made a brief expedition into the spotlight of the Malian political scene during his stint at the head of the Ministry of Defense in 2014, found himself at the head of the transition.

For the next 18 months if the calendar set by the transition charter is respected, Bah N'Daw will have to lead the country until the elections are held.

All eyes will be on this quiet fighter pilot â€" time will tell how he maneuvers, knowing that his vice-president is none other than the elusive Colonel Goïta, the head of the junta.

ECOWAS and part of the Malians have been pushing for a civilian. The junta which overthrew Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta (IBK) on August 18 wanted the military to retain power. Finally, the National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) sealed the deal on September 21 by appointing Bah N'Daw as president of the transition: a career soldier, but retired and returned to civilian life.

Born August 23, 1950 in San, in the region of Segou (Central), Bah N'Daw is a retired Air Force Colonel Major. Known in Mali beyond only military circles, he enlisted in 1973.

Bah N'Daw studied at the Combined Arms Military School (EMIA) in Koulikoro between 1976 and 1978, chose the Air Force, and completed his training abroad, from the soviet Russia (USSR), where he learned to fly helicopters, to France, where he graduated from the War School.
