Incumbent President John Pombe Magufuli was reportedly leading the Poll tally early Thursday as the National Electoral Commission started announcing provisional results.

Tanzania has tightly controlled the internet during this period making several online platforms inaccessible except for some state leaning outlets.

According to the preliminary results from 16 constituencies announced NEC's Chairman retired Judge Semistocles Kaijage, the CCM candidate Magufuli was leading, followed by opposition party Chadema's candidate Tundu Lissu.

The National Electoral Commission announced results from 12 and Magufuli was leading other 14 presidential candidates.
