Students from across the East African community member states are anxiously waiting for results from a highly competitive regional essay writing competition.

Sindiga Rachael Kerubo of Kenya based Alliance Girls High School told Taarifa that she took part in the competition and is keeping her fingers crossed as she waits for the results, 'I am not sure but I knew that I had done my best'

The east African Community (EAC) Secondary School Essay Writing Competition is held every year with students being asked to write on a variety of essay topics ranging from social issues to economic ones. These essays are aimed at facilitating a solution to the problems currently facing the regional bloc.

Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania,Kenya and Uganda are the countries taking part in the competition. The students are required to write an essay of between 1000-1500 words in any of the three languages of the given topic. The writing competition began on the 1st august and ended on 15th September for students in form 1 to form 4 in the east African member states.

For the 2020 essay writing competition, the topic provided was; 'How can the developments in information and communication technology (ICT) be utilized to speed up the development and integration efforts of the East African Community Partner states?'

The winning school will be awarded U$1500 worth of equipment while the winning essay writer will receive cash prize of U$300.

The school with the best first runner up essay will be awarded school equipment worth U$1200.

The school with the best second runner up essay will be awarded school equipment worth U$750.
