Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has arrested one Jean de Dieu Maniriho, a dentist who works for Impore private clinic in Musanze district, suspected of playing role in the murder of a teenage girl.
RIB detectives have unearthed more details surrounding the murder of Emerance Iradukunda, 17, who was struggled to death with a rope on October 2, 2020 by unknown assailants while on her way home from a wedding of her friend's sister.
Some arrests were made and investigators continued digging into the case.
The deceased was found tied up and dumped in a plantation.
Acting RIB Spokesperson, Dr. Thierry Murangira, told Taarifa on Wednesday morning that investigators have discovered that the girl was pregnant.
Preliminary investigations also indicate that there is a possibility she could have been murdered after the unsuccessful attempted abortion on her.
RIB suspects the dentist could have participated in this murder after confessing that he indeed attempted to facilitate an abortion, but it failed.
Dr. Murangira said that after interrogations, Dr. Maniriho confessed that he had impregnated the teen and had unsuccessfully attempted an abortion on her.
He is being charged with three accounts; murder, attempted abortion and defilement.
The suspect is being held at Muhoza RIB Station pending further investigation before his dossier is submitted to prosecution.
