Financial technology (Fintech) professionals and captains of the deep technology industries are preparing for the second day of Singapore's biggest Fintech Festival and Innovation week that kicked off on Monday.
Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, who is also Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies and Minister for Finance flagged off the event today 7th and will propel through up to 11th December.
It should be noted that Singapore is a day ahead of the local time in Rwanda. It is already Tuesday in Singapore.
Owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's festival will largely be held online for the next five days.
Paula Ingabire, Rwanda's Minister of ICT and Innovation is scheduled to speak at the 'Digitalisation of the Afro-Asia SME Trade Corridor: A Multi-Trillion Economic Zone' panel at this hybrid affair.
The event comes at a time, the global economy has suffered the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic that calls for a return to the drawing board and adjust to the new normal.
About 1,400 speakers are slated to speak, among them finance and technology leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers, including Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, the International Monetary Fund managing director Kristalina Georgieva and Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella.
Others include Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, Google chief executive Sundar Pichai and New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.
In all, the festival will feature more than 600 sessions, 1,000 exhibitors, and 27 international pavilions. The organisers said more than 60,000 participants from over 7,000 companies across 130 countries are expected.
Ravi Menon the managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore observed that under this pandemic, there are people who exhibited great courage, resilience and creativity in the face of adversity, they found solutions to how life can carry on, how societies can continue to function.
MAS chief fintech officer Sopnendu Mohanty said, 'Despite the pandemic, we are confident this event will connect and catalyse new partnerships between innovation enablers, enterprises and start-ups from Singapore and the rest of the world.'
The event is organized by Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) with Enterprise Singapore and the National Research Foundation .
