Al Ahly and Cape Town Out of BAL Season 4 After Quarter-Final Losses
The reigning champions, Al Ahly of Egypt, faced a disappointing exit from BAL Season 4 after being outclassed by debutant FUS Rabat with a score of 89-78 in Friday's quarter-finals at BK Arena.
Al Ahly head coach Agustin Bosch expressed his disappointment in a post-game press conference, saying, 'It's a disappointment, we tried to prepare our team, but we didn't deserve to win this game.'
In a closely contested match, Al Ahly initially held a one-point advantage in the first quarter but extended it to eight points by halftime. However, FUS Rabat staged a remarkable comeback in the final quarter, outscoring Al Ahly 31-14, securing an 89-78 victory and advancing to the semi-finals in their first BAL season.
Aliou Diarra led the way for FUS Rabat with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Kendrick Brown and Johnathan Jordan contributed 20 and 14 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Libya's Al Ahly secured a spot in the semi-finals after defeating Cape Town of South Africa 88-76. Robert Golden led the charge with 21 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Despite a strong start by Cape Town, they faltered in the second quarter, ultimately succumbing to a 12-point defeat.
Majok Deng led the scoring for Libya's Al Ahly with 18 points and six rebounds, supported by Kevin Murphy and Souleyman Diabate with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Cape Town's leading scorer was Dhieu Deng Mungisi Ngwenya, who contributed 21 points and five rebounds, while Samkelo Cele scored 16 points.
The BAL Season 4 will resume on Saturday, 25th May, with Petro de Luanda of Angola facing off against 2022 winners US Monastir at 2:30 p.m., followed by Nigeria's Rivers Hoopers taking on AS Douanes of Senegal.
